Freddie Mac reported mortgage interest rates were stable in the December 19 data. Overall, mortgage rates remain attractive to potential homebuyers and may help keep the housing market unusually active in the winter months, although this may borrow some sales from next spring.
The 30-year fixed rate was unchanged week-over-week at 3.73% and the average for December to-date was 3.71%, virtually the same as the 3.70% in November.
The 15-year fixed rate was unchanged week-over-week at 3.19% and the average for December to-date was 3.17%, much the same as the 3.16% for November.
The rate for a 5/1-year ARM was 3.37% in the December 19 data, up a scant 1 basis point from the prior week with the month-to-date average at 3.37%. This is a little below the 3.41% of November.
