As a footnote to the March Employment Situation, the sectors of the payroll data that are most sensitive to weather impacts had a definite influence on payrolls in the first quarter. Relatively mild weather in January saw an increase of 102,000 among weather sensitive sectors, February had a decline of 29,400 as cold and snow arrived, and March largely reversed that with an increase of 28,400.
Weather sensitive payrolls calculation: construction + retail + transportation and warehousing + (administration and waste management – temporary workers) + social assistance.
