The Freddie Mac weekly data on mortgage interest rates shows rates essentially unchanged at the end of February. The 30-year fixed rate remained at 4.35% in the February 28 week, unchanged from the prior week. The 15-year fixed rate ticked down to 3.77% from 3.78% in the February 21 week. The 5/1 adjustable rate was unchanged at 3.84%.
The monthly average for February was 4.37% for the 30-year fixed rate, 3.80% for the 15-year fixed rate, and 3.87% for the 5/1-year adjustable. Rates remained the lowest in four months for fixed rate mortgages which is likely to provide a boost to the upcoming spring homebuying season.
