On the radar: Agreement to avoid another shutdown should mean Census and BEA will update calendars soon

The Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) have released the first wave of economic data reports and will be able to continue to do so now that an agreement has been reached to fund the federal government agencies affected by the prior shutdown. The following are the available changes in the schedule in coming weeks. At present, the data release calendar may not be fully back on track until May. The Census Bureau calendar is here and the Bureau of Economic Analysis is here. Further updates are likely to appear in the new few days.

Bureau of Economic Analysis:

Combined advance and second estimate of fourth quarter 2018 GDP into an Initial GDP report on Thursday, February 28 at 8:30 ET (previously advance on January 30 and second estimate on February 28). This will bring the GDP report back on schedule.

Personal Income and Outlays for December on Friday, March 1 (previously December was on January 31). The report will include personal income for January (back on schedule) but not outlays or the savings rate. A release date has not been announced.

Joint Bureau of Economic Analysis and Bureau of Labor Statistics:

The BEA provided partial data (manufacturing only) for preliminary Productivity and Costs for fourth quarter 2018 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday, February 6 at 8:30 ET that did not include revisions from Current Employment Statistics included in Employment Situation on February 1. The full revised Productivity and Costs report for the fourth quarter will be released at 8:30 ET on Thursday, March 7. This will bring the Productivity and Costs report back on schedule.

Joint Bureau of Economic Analysis and Census Bureau:

International Trade in Goods and Services for December will be reported at 8:30 ET on Wednesday, March 6 (previously on February 5). The January data release date has not yet been determined.

Census Bureau:

The Advance Economic Indicators Report for December is at 8:30 ET on Wednesday, February 27 at 8:30 ET. The November report (originally set for December 28) was cancelled. The dates for the January and February data have yet to be determined.

The December data on business inventories will be released at 10:00 ET on Monday, March 11. The January data release date has yet to be determined.

Retail and Food Sales for December will be released at 8:30 ET on Thursday, February 14. The dates for the January and February reports have yet to be determined.

Construction Spending for December will be released on Monday, March 4 at 10:00 ET. The dates for the January and February data have yet to be determined.

Sales of single-family homes for December is set for Tuesday, March 5 at 10:00 ET. The January data release has not yet been determined.

The advance quarterly report on Services was cancelled, the full Quarterly Services Survey will be reported on Monday, March 18.
