The St. Louis Fed’s Financial Stress Index eased for a fourth week in a row. It fell to -0.917 from -0.907 in the prior week and was its lowest since -0.994 in the November 2, 2018 week. Signs of strains in wider financial conditions were never very bad in the weeks in late December when equities markets were undergoing a steep correction, but have since steadily moved back towards levels before the plunge in stock prices started in earnest.
